In Home Support

Daily In-Home Support under the NDIS refers to practical, day-to-day assistance provided in a participant’s home to help them live as independently and safely as possible.

What is Daily In-Home Support (NDIS)?

Daily In-Home Support is funded by the NDIS to assist participants with everyday activities they may find difficult due to their disability. These supports are delivered by support workers and are tailored to each person’s needs, goals, and routines.
It is often listed in NDIS plans as “Assistance with Daily Living.”

What does Daily In-Home Support include?

Supports can be provided for a few hours a day, overnight, or up to 24/7, depending on the participant’s needs.
Supports may include help with:

Personal care (showering, dressing, grooming, toileting)
Meal preparation and cooking
Household tasks (cleaning, laundry, tidying)
Medication prompting (not administration unless trained/approved)
Getting ready for the day or for bed
Establishing and maintaining daily routines
Support with mobility and transfers
Building independence and life skills

What Daily In-Home Support does not include

Daily In-Home Support does not usually cover:

  • Medical or clinical care (e.g. nursing tasks)
  • Therapy services (e.g. OT, physio, speech therapy)
  • Rent, utilities, or groceries
  • Supports unrelated to the participant’s disability

Who is Daily In-Home Support for?

Daily In-Home Support is for NDIS participants who:

  • Need help with everyday activities
  • Want to live in their own home or with family
  • Require support to stay safe, independent, and engaged
  • Have this support assessed as reasonable and necessary in their NDIS plan

Where is Daily In-Home Support provided?

Supports are usually delivered:

  • In the participant’s own home
  • In family homes
  • In private rentals or supported accommodation settings

How is Daily In-Home Support funded?

  • Funded through an NDIS plan under Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Living
  • Can be self-managed, plan-managed, or NDIA-managed
  • Support hours and funding depend on assessed needs and goals
